Dermaceutics Graduate Course 2015

“Dermaceutics” is an in-depth full semester course designed for graduate level students as well as scientists in the pharmaceutical/personal care and cosmetic industries who need to learn more about the fundamentals of skin, skin absorption, topical/transdermal compound delivery and methodologies for testing the penetration of compounds into skin.

According to the AFPE, “for more than 70 years, AFPE has provided fellowships, scholarships, and grants to help educate thousands of the very best and brightest students in the pharmaceutical sciences in preparation for distinguished careers in industry and academia”.

The Center for Dermal Research held its 4th Annual Skin Workshop

The workshop focused on skin reconstruction for wounds, burns and deep skin trauma and brought together leading clinician-researchers, government scientists and industrial technology directors to share their approaches to the challenges of this theme. Society of Cosmetic Chemists Annual Scientific Seminar

Professor Bozena Michniak-Kohn and Dr Nava Dayan of Lipo Chemicals (Paterson, NJ) have been invited to present recent collaborative research at the Society of Cosmetic Chemists Annual Scientific Seminar, Bellagio Resort, Las Vegas, NV on June 3rd, 2011. Vishwas Rai, a graduate student is a co-author on the work. The presentation is entitled: “Evaluation of Photo-Toxic Effect of Fractionated Melanin: A Comparative Study between Three Different Cell Lines”.

Aresty Best Poster Presentation Award 2011 for “Permeation of nicotine across Polyderm human skin equivalent”

Michael Chiou, an undergraduate student in the laboratory of Prof. Bozena Michniak-Kohn was awarded the Aresty Best Poster Presentation Award 2011 for “Permeation of nicotine across Polyderm human skin equivalent”. Enhanced in vitro Transbuccal Drug Delivery of Ondansetron HCl

Dr Bozena Michniak-Kohn, director of the Laboratory for Drug Delivery at Rutgers, reports improvement of the NextACT technology used in the delivery of an important drug for treating nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron is administered to counter these side effects following surgery and during chemotherapy.

Ondansetron is administered to counter these side effects following surgery and during chemotherapy. Dr Michniak-Kohn’s research, conducted at the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials, found a way to significantly improve the permeation of ondansetron by delivering the drug through oral tissue. Her data and findings were published in the November 5th issue of International Journal of Pharmaceutics in the article, “Enhanced in vitro Transbuccal Drug Delivery of Ondansetron HCI”.
